Dave P., Rick there's a new post on the DOV blog.

I've been goofing off all day and I haven't even started my Sunday School lesson yet.

Or thinking up discussion questions for the book club tomorrow night.

Umm, or working for that matter

And yet here I am blogging.

Oh well, I still have time.

It's so funny to read the books sometimes at Free Books. They don't always translate faithfully when scanned and put into a PDF file. For example, today I was perusing through Chilton's "Paradise Restored" when I came upon this unintentionally hilarious tidbit:

"If the Church faithfully calls upon God to judge murderers and
persecutors, what will happen? The answer is given in the whole
Book of Revelation: God’s angels will cast fire upon the earth,
and the wicked will be consumed. But we must remember that
the coals of God's vengeance must come from the sitar.
"

I don't think it's good to give Ravi Shankar all that power.

Henceforth I learn, that to obey is best,
And love with fear the only God, to walk
As in his presence, ever to observe
His providence, and on him sole depend,
Merciful over all his works, with good
Still overcoming evil, and by small
Accomplishing great things, by things deemed weak
Subverting worldly strong, and worldly wise
By simply meek; that suffering for Truth’s sake
Is fortitude to highest victory,
And to the faithful death the gate of life;
Taught this by his example whom I now
Acknowledge my Redeemer ever blest.

Some quick ones

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One says to the other "Does this taste funny to you?"

A sandwich walks into a bar. The barman says "Sorry we don't serve food in here."

Dyslexic man walks into a bra....

A man walks into a bar with a roll of tarmac under his arm and says "Pint please, and one for the road."

Two hydrogen atoms walk into a bar. One says, "I think I've lost an electron." The other says, "Are you sure?" The first replies, "Yes, I'm positive..."

I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I couldn't find any.

My friend drowned in a bowl of muesli. He was pulled in by a strong currant.

I like to read this article by Rev. Schlissel once every couple of months to give me a good kick in the butt. I hope you'll find it praiseworthy as well.

"It's not good enough to have the best theoretical arguments. The arguments must be translated into institutional action and local renewal. This is especially true of theonomists, whose ranks are filled with big mouths who have yet to produce anything except on-line feuding. They write no articles or books. They work in no missions. They just shoot off their mouths on-line. They debate. Well, talk is cheap. "Put your post-tithe money where your mouth is," is the proper response. Cancelled checks reveal a man's commitment. Or, as James put it, "Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works" (James 2:18). -Gary North

Despite the obvious irony of Gary North chastising theonomists for "shooting their mouths off", he is spot on (to borrow a term from Dan) in his critique of theoretical theonomists. I would extend that charge to all of us (myself especially) who talk a grand game about discipling the nations for Christ but too often are caught up in the suffocations of our own lusts & pleasures.

Welcome to my Horrors

I just had a disturbing but true flashback.

It was of me in the late '80's, sitting in my bedroom, unwrapping countless wax packs of Topps baseball cards, greedily devouring the revolting "gum" in the pack all the while listening to the album "Faith" by George Michael.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Don't you hate it when you have 3 minutes left on your break and you still haven't gone to the bathroom??

Well it looks like Josh is going to be Batman for Halloween. Now mind you it's not the standard Batman but the "Batman Beyond" character, or as Josh likes to call it "The Evil Batman". Josh started calling it that when we wouldn't let him watch the cartoon. When he asked why we told him it was far too violent for him to watch. "Oh so it's evil then?" he asked. Not knowing exactly how give a "well yes and no" answer that he could wrap his mind around, we said "Well...yeah..sort of".

Big mistake.

Just as Adam went rushing to the forbidden fruit, now Josh is trying to get his hands on every last "Evil Batman" item he can get his hands on. He goes running around pretending to fight with Caleb (who plays an all too willing Joker) and declaring himself to be the "evilest Batman in the world".

Which goes over great in Church let me tell you.

Caleb it seems wants to be Robin now. For the longest time both he and Josh wanted to be Spiderman, then Caleb wanted to be the Green Goblin, which I would've paid good money to see (imagine a little 2-year old running around in a hideous green mask with a scowling smile, hamming it up to the gills). I'm a little bummed that none of them want to be Spiderman (though more for myself, the costume came with sweet gloves with web-spinning sound effects that would've been cool to play with) however, growing up, Batman was my favorite superhero (well second to Wolverine that is) so there is a bit of sweet nostalgia to see them dig superheroes like their old man.

I just hope they don't geek out like their old man did, collecting comics until they are 18 years old. Geez, it's a wonder I ever got married.

One of the great things about sitting on my butt all day at a desk job is that I have plenty of energy to help out with the chores when I get home.

Tonight my wife had a Parent-Teacher Fellowship meeting for NCA so she left at 7 PM leaving me to feed the kids (she had already made dinner so no big whoop), put away their laundry, read to them and put them to bed. Then I did the dishes (lots) and tidied up the front room.

Am I not domesticated?

Great googly moogly I'm sleepy.

I'm so sleepy that my eyeballs are involuntarily twitching in my sockets.
