Fair, Balanced and Lightly Sauteed

8/30/2002

Well my oldest boy starts school in a couple of days. Man has it been five years already? I don't understand why I get to feelin' all weepy when I think about it. I never really trip out about his birthdays or anything like that?

I think it's the whole rite of passage thing, those tangible landmarks that show you where you're at in life. Once you start thinking about that you start thinking about where you've been.

Over the past five years my wife and I have lived with two families (one of them 2x's), had one failed business, a church split and all the while raising two boys as well as we could.

Through it all God has never forsaken or left us.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.
There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
-- Psalm 46:1-5 (KJV)

Well the baseball strike is over and done with, at least until 2007. A lot of people asked me whether or not I'd join the "fan's strike" and not come back.

No way, I love professional baseball too much.

My feelings are:

1. Like anybody living in the USA, they (both sides I'm talking about) have every right to try and get or save as much $ as they can.

2. It's been my experience that the teams that complain that they can't compete unless they get more moolah are usually the most poorly run teams who don't have a clue about scouting or minor league development. The ones who have mastered it are competitive (i.e. Oakland A's, Minnesota Twins) though they remain at the bottom of the barrell in payroll.

3. The arguments about how "the common man is being squeezed out" and "Joe Workingclass doesn't care about billionares and millionares arguing and we should all boycott" smack of patronizing envy and greed of the rich. I'll take no part of that. God is sovereign and he provides for my needs. God has decided to give one riches and not myself...who am I to argue?

Besides, with the Dodgers in the playoff hunt..no way am I giving up on baseball now!1 :-)

Hello, howdy, my name's Rob and I'm using this blog mainly as a tool to help me learn HTML and all that. It is being used also to clarify my thoughts on certain things.

Some of the things discussed on this blog will be (in no particular order): Reformed theology, the Christian walk and life, baseball, beer & cigar reviews, being a hubby & dad, politics, classical education and any other thing which either piques my fancy or terribly disturbs me.

OK, enough intro jibba-jabba Let's get it on...
